Misted Double Glazing Repair in Tunbridge Wells & Kent

Clear the fog. Keep the frame. Replace just the failed sealed glass unit — typically £120–£200 per window, not £400–£800 for a new window.

If you can see condensation, water droplets or a permanent haze trapped between the two panes of glass, the sealed unit has failed — not the frame. Replacing the unit costs a fraction of a full window and restores both clarity and thermal performance.

Repairs start as low as £100*

Misted double-glazed window with condensation between the panes, ready for sealed-unit replacement from £100*

What's actually wrong with a misted window?

Double-glazed panes are sealed at the edges and filled with dry air or argon gas. When the seal degrades — usually 10–20 years in — moisture works its way between the panes and condenses on the inside surface. Heat is lost, the view is ruined, and the unit can no longer be cleaned. The frame itself is almost always still sound. We measure the unit, manufacture a like-for-like replacement, and swap it in — no scaffolding, no plaster damage, no new frame.

  • Sealed unit replacement: Drop-in swap of the failed pane, matched to your original glass thickness, spacer depth and pattern.
  • Argon-filled units: Re-spec with argon gas + warm-edge spacers to cut heat loss and stop internal condensation.
  • Low-E / Planitherm® glass: Optional upgrade to thermal-retention glass that reflects warmth back into the room.
  • Toughened & laminated: For doors, low-level windows and any pane within 800mm of the floor (Building Regulations Part K).
  • Obscure & patterned glass: Matched to the original where bathrooms, en-suites or front doors need privacy.

Most homes in Tunbridge Wells, Pembury and Tonbridge can have one to four misted units replaced in a single follow-up visit after the survey.

Why repair, not replace?

Misted glass is a classic case where replacing the whole window is wasteful. The frame, hinges, handles and seals are usually fine — only the sealed glass unit has failed. Targeted repair saves you roughly £300–£600 per window versus full replacement, and keeps perfectly good UPVC and aluminium frames out of landfill.

Clear pricing. No upselling. No pressure. Every job is backed by a written guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Real questions from real customers in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.

  • How much does misted glass repair cost?

From £100 per pane. Most domestic windows fall between £120 and £200 depending on size, glass thickness and whether you want a Low-E or argon-filled upgrade. A full window replacement, by comparison, is usually £400–£800.

  • How long does it take?

Two visits. Visit one is a free 15–20 minute survey to measure each unit and confirm the spec. Visit two is the install, typically 30–60 minutes per window once the glass arrives (usually 7–10 working days after the survey).

  • Can the haze be cleaned out without replacing the glass?

No. Once the perimeter seal fails, moisture is permanently inside the cavity. Defogging and drilling "cures" you may have read about online don't restore the gas fill or the thermal value — the only correct fix is a new sealed unit.

  • Do you replace the glass on aluminium and timber frames too?

Yes. We replace sealed units in UPVC, aluminium and timber frames. We don't restore single-glazed leaded lights or stained glass — we'll tell you straight if a job is outside our remit.

  • Will the new pane match the rest of my windows?

We match the original glass thickness, spacer bar colour, pattern and tint. If you have a Georgian-bar or leaded effect, we replicate it. You won't see the difference from inside or out.
