Bi-Fold, Composite & Patio Door Repair in Tunbridge Wells
Doors that drop, stick or won't lock — realigned, hinges replaced and locking mechanisms restored. From £80, usually in one visit.
A door that scrapes the frame, leaves a visible gap, or needs you to lift the handle hard to get the multi-point lock to engage isn't broken — it's misaligned. The fix is almost never "a new door". It's a careful adjustment of the hinges, keeps and locking strip.
Most doors realigned in one visit
Why doors drop and stick
Composite and UPVC doors are heavy. Over time the hinges sag fractionally and the door drops at the handle edge, putting the multi-point locking strip out of line with its keeps in the frame. You feel it as: catching on the threshold, having to lift the handle to lock, draughts at the top corner, and eventually a handle that won't lift at all.
- Hinge adjustment & replacement: Lift, lateral and compression tuning on flag, butt and bi-fold hinges. New hinges where the bearings are gone.
- Multi-point lock realignment: Re-positioning the keeps in the frame so the lock hooks and shoot-bolts engage cleanly.
- Gearbox replacement: When the lifting handle feels notchy or won't lift — usually the gearbox, not the cylinder.
- Threshold & weather-seal renewal: New rubber seals and brush strips to stop the draught and water ingress that always follow a dropped door.
- Bi-fold track service: Cleaning, lubrication and roller replacement so panels run smoothly across the full span.
Why repair, not replace?
A composite or aluminium bi-fold door replacement is a £2,500–£8,000 job. A realignment is £80–£150. We've yet to meet a door that genuinely needed replacing for a mechanical fault — if your door is structurally sound, we'll get it closing properly again.
Clear pricing. No upselling. No pressure. Every job is backed by a written guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Real questions from real customers in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.
-
Why won't my door lock without me lifting really hard on the handle?
Classic dropped-door symptom. The multi-point lock strip is no longer aligned with the keeps in the frame, so the hooks are catching on the metal as you lift. We re-position the keeps and adjust the hinges so the handle lifts under finger pressure again.
-
Can you repair bi-fold doors as well as front doors?
Yes. Bi-folds, French doors, patio sliders, UPVC back doors and composite front doors. The principle is the same — hinges, tracks, gearboxes and seals are all serviceable parts.
-
My door is draughty at the top corner — same fault?
Usually yes. When a door drops, the compression seal at the top hinge corner loses contact with the frame. Realignment plus a fresh weather-seal solves it without replacing the door.
-
How long does it take?
Most domestic door realignments are 60–90 minutes on-site. Bi-fold service with multiple rollers and hinges can run to half a day; we quote upfront.
-
What if the lock cylinder is also worn?
We can replace the cylinder during the same visit, and offer Ultion® 3-star anti-snap as an upgrade. We carry common cylinder lengths on the van.
